UnIsolated Majuli

WORLD BIGGEST RIVER ISLAND, seems fascinating right?

Our journey started on 23rd Jan morning around 9am. The island is around 230 km from my hometown and as my friends were leaving for their 'work city it was the 'until next time' trip for us.

My friend brought his Mom's Car (Maruti Suzuki Ignis) and we were really excited as it was our longest road trip to the biggest river island in the world. Around 15 mins after starting we took a small break for chai, we continued for the next 90 km covering the bad patch of the road trip. As we entered koliabor, the roads completely changed for good, neat, and without potholes. Personally, it is one of the best roads that I have traveled as we enter the Kaziranga National Park. Kaziranga has always been our go-to place for weekend trips as it's within the 100km range from the hometown with a mandatory stop at the Burapahar viewpoint for a quick photo session. Around 1, we reached Jorhat, the major city before entering the island and stopped for quick lunch. Interestingly I found a very small hut that serves parathas and sabji (Staple breakfast in Assamese stalls). Around 2ish we reached Majuli ferry ghat (Nimatighat) and had to wait around 2 hours to onboard the ferry.

It was a new experience as we had to take the car on the ferry. It was a 45 mins journey and we had the perfect timing to catch the sunset in the ferry. We reached Majuli at 5pm.

Our stay was booked in Ayang Okom River resort and I was not expected it to be mindblowing as it is isolated from the mainlands but to my surprise, it was a steal deal with an amazing view of the river. It is considered the best resort in Majuli and I cannot second that enough.

We spend the night chilling in front of the river with a bonfire with some delicious home-style Assamese thali.

The next day we started early and were able to catch the first ferry for the day. As this time we had to cross the river upstream it took us around 1 and a half hours to cross the Brahmaputra. After a small halt at a relative's place for lunch at Koliabor, we reached our hometown Nagaon at 3pm.

The next day we explored the town of Majuli. We started by visiting the biggest Satra called the Auniati Satra. As all my friend are not that religious we skipped the other tourist spots and started to explore the riverbanks of the Brahmaputra. We found a very old ferry being stationed which was calling for Instagram-able photos. after an hour-long photo session, we had our lunch and moved back to our resort. TBT this was supposed to be a chill vacation and nothing better than chilling by the river with some local drinks and smoked food. We spent around 3-4 hours there and finished the evening with some local chicken, rice, dal, and aloo bajji (nothing beats this). We were supposed to leave that day as most of us had office the next day but couldn't resist the riverside bonfire and decided to extend the trip.

Summarising the trip, Me and my friends are not the kinds of travelers who wanted to see all the spots a place has to offer, it was a complete trip. It was long overdue as last year like everyone we didn't travel anywhere. Trips like this have so much to offer to unwind and also helps to focus back on the monotonous schedule. The sheer feeling of waiting to go for the next trip is whats keeps me motivated and focused.

Happy :)
